The Essence of Reality will be the focus of this workshop
and learning to see and interpret the subject matter, with an
emphasis on expressive painting. We will discuss the basics of
composition, value, and color, emphasizing the use of contrast
and rhythm. Discussions will include technique and "how
to" with attention to "lost and found" edges,
but we will also pay particular attention to the importance of
seeing, and learning how to respond to and evaluate the information.
Models and still life will be the subject matter. There will
be demonstrations, a slide presentation, lectures, group discussions,
and as much individual attention as possible. Instruction will
be in oils, but pastels are acceptable. This is an intermediate
to professional level class.
