David Leffel will approach the "act" of painting
by giving the student a rational way to understand the how's
and why's of painting and how to use value, color, edges,
and paint to construct a painting. Leffel says, "Art is
a delicate balance between the visual concept and the artist's
technique. The concept (pictorial) and the technique (craft)
must be fused inextricably. The student strives to ...be free
from painting "things." Learning all the technique
in the world will not teach you to paint that which you do not
see. You can only express on canvas what you are at the time
you are painting."
